This study evaluates the influence of message processing variables and attitudes towards households’ food waste prevention and reduction behavioral intentions. By integrating the frameworks of the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) of persuasion and the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), this study evaluates the following variables and the extent of their predictive capacity towards Behavioral Intention to prevent and reduce food waste: Environmental Knowledge, Environmental Concern, Perceived Benefit, Perceived Effectiveness, Attitude, Subjective Norms and Perceived Behavioral Control. Through a multiple linear regression analysis, this study found that only Perceived Behavioral Control was a significant determinant of Behavioral Intention towards preventing and reducing food waste for this specific case.
