“Sogres Educa” Helps Raise Awareness on Food Waste Prevention

At ToNoWaste, we are proud to share the launch of Sogres Educa, a new educational video series developed by our project coordinators, UJI-Sogres. This initiative aims to empower individuals with knowledge about food and how to handle it properly — because understanding food is one of the most sustainable ways to prevent waste.

The video series, available on YouTube, offers concise, engaging episodes that explore key concepts related to food preservation and waste reduction. Through this initiative, SOGRES and ToNoWaste continue working together to promote responsible consumption and raise awareness of the environmental, social, and economic impact of food waste.

Episode 1 – Ripening or Aging?

In the first episode, viewers learn about the difference between ripening and aging, and how time can transform a nutritious product into waste. Understanding these natural processes is essential to consuming food at the right time and preventing unnecessary losses.

Episode 2 – Fruits That Breathe Differently

🎥 Watch here
Not all fruits behave the same after harvest. This chapter explains the difference between climacteric and non-climacteric fruits and how ethylene gas plays a key role in their ripening process. Knowing which fruits continue to ripen after being picked helps consumers store and consume them more effectively.

Episode 3 – Smart Tips: Store Better, Waste Less

🎥 Watch here
Proper storage is crucial to extending the shelf life of food. In this episode, Sogres Educa provides practical tips on optimal temperature, humidity, and fruit arrangement — small actions that can make a big difference in reducing waste at home.

This video series reflects our shared mission within the ToNoWaste project: to equip society with the tools and knowledge needed to prevent food waste at every stage of the food chain. We invite you to follow the series and share it within your community to foster more conscious and sustainable consumption habits.

Together, we can make every bite count.
