The ToNoWaste project is pleased to announce the ToNoWaste 2026 Co-Creative Spring School, taking place from 20 to 22 April 2026 in Vienna, Austria.
Food waste remains a major challenge for sustainability, leading to avoidable losses of resources such as energy, water and land, while also contributing significantly to CO₂ emissions. Addressing food waste effectively requires systemic, evidence-based solutions that consider the entire food system.
The three-day Spring School offers an international, inter- and transdisciplinary learning experience, combining innovative teaching formats, hands-on activities and collaborative scenario-building. Participants will explore practical approaches to reducing food waste, drawing on pilot actions and real-world experiences from Sweden, Greece and Austria.
Through a structured scenario approach, participants will work together to:
- Analyse food loss and waste across the entire food value chain
- Explore social, technological, environmental, economic, political, legal and ethical dimensions
- Develop evidence-based policy recommendations for decision-makers
- Apply the ToNoWaste comprehensive, science-based framework for sustainability assessment
The programme is designed for students of all levels, researchers, junior professionals, SMEs and industry practitioners, NGO experts, and actors across the food value chain. In addition to strengthening analytical and professional skills, the Spring School provides valuable opportunities for in-person networking and peer learning.
Education plays a central role in the ToNoWaste project, which is supported by 21 partner organisations spanning academia, research, civil society and industry. The Spring School reflects this collaborative spirit by bringing together diverse perspectives to co-create solutions for a more sustainable European food system.
